Leeds United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Premier League new boys Leeds United hope to continue an encouraging start to their return to top-flight football when Tottenham Hotspur, one of the league’s big guns visit Yorkshire on Saturday lunchtime.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth while Thomas Frank’s Spurs were held 1-1 at home by bottom club Wolves last week. And the Whites were in Champions League action on Tuesday night, drawing 2-2 away to Bodo Glimt; so the hosts have more time to prepare for this fascinating clash.
The visitors are the favourites to grab all three points though, and Frank has a clearly talented squad, but Leeds are holding their own so far and won’t afford their visitors too much respect.
Talking Points
Longstaff is loving life at Leeds
Leeds’ Premier League 2025 results have been impressive on the whole and the Yorkshire club has collected eight points from six games to put them in 12th place, and already four points above the drop zone. An opening day win over Everton, before the Toffees got into their stride, was followed by a chastening 5-0 hammering at the hands of Arsenal. But Farke’s team has responded well, with two draws, one defeat and a victory over struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Summer signing Sean Longstaff was highly influential in a tenacious draw against his former club Newcastle United. The energetic midfielder didn’t play in Leeds’ opening two games, but he has since been a big character in the dressing room and a force on the pitch, getting a goal and an assist in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
Longstaff won the man-of-the-match award for that display but, elsewhere at the club, there is bad news for wide man Daniel James who has been reported to have suffered a serious injury in training this week. The former Manchester United man has struggled with a few niggles this term, making four appearances, and he was in the match-day squad for Leeds’ draw with the Cherries. But word from West Yorkshire is that the 27 year old is likely to be out for some time.
Spurs are learning how to battle

After a 17th placed finish last season and a change of manager, the Premier League 2025 betting odds have predicted a much better outcome for Spurs this term. And it’s so far so good as Frank’s team is sitting in fourth place after six games. While former manager Ange Postecoglu is still awaiting his first win as Nottingham Forest boss, his replacement has made a much better start in North London, opening with an impressive 3-0 win at home to Burnley and following that up with a 2-0 victory away to Manchester City. But it was never going to be plain sailing, with a busy schedule and a long season ahead and Spurs, for too long known for their soft centre, seem to have learned how to scrap out results under Frank. His team is in Champions League action too, and needed an 89th minute leveller against Bodo Glimt to escape with a point. Tottenham were two down; but a goal from centre back Mickey Van de Ven and then a late own goal, forced by excellent play from Richarlison, gave Tottenham a hard-earned draw.
A 1-1 stalemate with Wolves last weekend was hardly a triumph and the Spurs crowd was subjected to a rather lacklustre display, with once summer signing, Xavi Simons, struggling to impress so far. The Londoners trailed the bottom club until the returned Joao Palhinha popped up to rescue a point in the 94th minute. But with just one defeat in six Premier League games so far, Frank can be happy with his work and will expect a return to winning ways for his side at Elland Road.
History
Over the last three decades these two clubs have met 26 times, with Spurs edging the head-to-heads with 12 wins to ten and there have been four draws, the Londoners scoring 44 goals to 36 in that time.
But Spurs have won nine of their last 11 Premier League games against Leeds and the last two at Elland Road, scoring four goals on each occasion; and, in terms of recent form, Tottenham have won three and drawn three of their last six games, while Leeds have won one, drawn three and lost two.
Betting Tip
Spurs are the marginal SBOTOP favourites to win this clash at odds of 2.40, with Leeds at 2.75 and the draw a little further out at 3.35. I think Leeds will give this a good go, as they always do, but if there is to be a winner I expect it to be Tottenham.
