Women’s EuroBasket 2025: The Powerhouses are Already In

France, Italy, Lithuania, Czechia, Belgium, and Spain are guaranteed spots in the Women’s EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals after picking up positive Women’s EuroBasket 2025 results in the preliminary round. France are at the top of Group A with a 2-0 record, while Italy and Lithuania are both undefeated in Group B. Czechia and Belgium have the top two spots in Group C. Spain lead Group D, also with a 2-0 slate.

Turkey, Greece, Sweden, and Germany all have 1-1 records, so they can still qualify for the knockout phase. However, time is not on their side since it is essentially win or go home for them at this point.

Meanwhile, Switzerland, Slovenia, Serbia, Portugal, Montenegro, and Great Britain are already out of the tournament after they dropped their first two group stage games.

The Women’s EuroBasket 2025 odds don’t have a clear favorite, so SBOTOP basketball fan are in for a huge treat as we go deeper into the tournament.

Salaun spearheads France’s Group A charge

Janelle Salaun has been one of the tournament’s most impactful players in guiding France to a 2-0 start in Group A. The Golden State Valkyries forward is the competition’s joint-second leading scorer alongside Turkey’s Teaira McCowan, averaging 19.5 points per game.

Salaun poured in 22 points and four rebounds on 8-for-14 shooting in their narrow 71-69 win over Turkey. Turkey led for most of the night, but France hit them with a flurry of three-pointers down the stretch to steal the victory. Valeriane Ayayi and Iliana Rupert added 14 and 10 points for Les Bleus.

France followed up their opening day win with a 92-56 blowout victory over Greece. Salaun led the way again with 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting. Migna Toure, Iliana Rupert, and Pauline Astier added 15, 14, and 12 points.

The team will wrap up their group stage round with a game against Switzerland, who are at the bottom of the pack with two consecutive embarrassing losses against Greece (87-65) and Turkey (91-67).

Defending champions Belgium are also off to a fast start because of their star forward Emma Meesseman. The Nikola Jokic of Belgium leads the Cats in the main categories, averaging 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks on 57.9 percent shooting from the field.

Belgium started the preliminary round with an 81-52 rout of Portugal. Meesseman flirted with a triple-double, notching 19 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals on 4-for-8 shooting and 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Julie Vanloo added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists on 4-for-8 shooting. Julie Allemand registered 10 points and three assists on 3-for-5 shooting.

Belgium further asserted their dominance in Group C with an 87-53 win over Montenegro on the second matchday, where Belgium raced to a 31-8 lead in the opening frame and never looked back.

Kyara Linskens had a breakout performance, recording 25 points (game-high), eight rebounds, and three assists on 11-for-14 shooting. Emma Meesseman added 15 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 7-for-11 shooting, and Nastja Claessens chipped in 14 points and six rebounds on 3-for-4 shooting.

Jocyte doing well for Lithuania in debut

This year is Juste Jocyte’s first time playing in Women’s EuroBasket, and the 19-year-old Golden State Valkyries guard is already leading the way for Lithuania, despite being the youngest player on the national team.

In Lithuania’s 77-71 win over Slovenia in their opening match, their first win in 10 years, Jocyte had 17 points, three rebounds, and six assists on 7-for-12 shooting. Egle Sventoraite had 15 points and three rebounds, and Brigita Sinickaite added 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists on 4-for-5 shooting.

Lithuania led by double digits for the most part and had to withstand a late Slovenia fight-back led by Jessica Shepard, who had 25 points, 18 rebounds, and two assists on 10-for-15 shooting. Sinickaite’s late go-ahead three-pointer settled the nerves for Lithuania en route to securing the victory.

Lithuania advanced to the knockout stage with a 74-63 victory over Serbia. Laura Juskaite had 24 points (team-high), nine rebounds, and two assists on 8-for-14 shooting and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Jocyte recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists on 4-for-10 shooting and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. Sventoraite added 14 points and eight rebounds on 5-for-10 shooting.

Both teams struggled to find their rhythm from downtown, but Lithuania had enough daylight to see the game through with a late run in the final period.
